About Us
About Us - A Review of the American TV Show
About Us is an American comedy television show, which was created by Greg Garcia and starring Eddie Murphy as a divorced father and his ex-wife. The series lasted for three seasons, before going off air. The show followed Murphy's mother, played by the late Marilu Henner, and their attempts to get reacquainted with one another after the separation they had suffered some years back. The characters in About Us include a gay couple, a Jewish woman and a Mexican lawyer.
The show featured in a number of guest stars, but among them was Bill Murray's introduction as the cynical Reuben Feffer. Feffer was seen as a cynical man who often voiced his contempt for the other characters in the show and in particular for the way they were treated by the other characters. This characterisation of him in particular went on to become a signature character of the show for a number of seasons. In the fifth season, however, Feffer was to lose his regular role due to what the show's producers felt was pressure caused by the Writers Guild, and he therefore came back for a brief spell as a different character.
In the fourth season, we also saw the debut of a character named Max who worked in the Writers Union. He was portrayed as an enthusiastic and friendly man, who seemed to enjoy working with the other members. In the fifth and final season, he was to feature as the show's central figure, a writer named David Hyde Pierce. After his death, however, he was to feature in a series of spin-off stories, one of which involved David Blaine, who is a famous street performer known for his street magic tricks.
